  • After a prolonged suspension of 51 hours, mobile and internet services have finally been restored in the federal capital.

The shutdown had caused significant disruption to communication across Islamabad, affecting both residents and businesses.

The recent service disruption is part of a larger pattern of internet shutdowns across Pakistan over the past year.

Authorities have intermittently suspended mobile and internet services, primarily citing security concerns during political protests, large gatherings, and sensitive national events.

These shutdowns while aimed at maintaining order have raised concerns about the impact on daily life, businesses, and access to information.
  • As per details, containers have been placed on all routes leading to the location, and the police have arrested over 600 PTI workers in a bid to prevent the protest from taking place.

Over 10,000 security personnel have been deployed in Lahore to maintain law and order, whereas the metro bus service in Lahore has been partially suspended.

The Punjab government has also imposed Section 144 in Lahore to ban political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies and protests for six days.

The restrictions will remain in effect from Thursday, October 3 (today), to Tuesday, October 8, to maintain law and order and protect lives and property.

According to the notification, public gatherings could serve as soft targets for terrorists. The Punjab Home Department has issued the official notification for the imposition of Section 144.
  • A lieutenant colonel was among six soldiers who embraced martyrdom during a gun battle with terrorists in North Waziristan’s Spinwam area, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.

In a statement, the military’s media wing said that the exchange of fire between the two sides took place on the night between October 4-5, during which “six Khwarij” were also killed.
  • As police continued to clash with PTI protesters in Islamabad on Friday night, contingents of the Pakistan Army were deployed in the federal capital to assume security duties ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

At least 30 protesters were arrested as police fired tear gas to disperse PTI protesters attempting to reach Islamabad’s D-Chowk for a party rally. Incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan earlier again called on his supporters to gather for a “peaceful protest” as his party amped up preparations for today’s demonstration despite a ban on gatherings. Another one is also scheduled for Lahore’s Minar-i-Pakistan on Saturday.
  • Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will visit Pakistan later this month to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of Government summit, according to Indian media reports.

“EAM Jaishankar will lead a delegation to Pakistan for the SCO summit which will be held in Islamabad on 15th and 16th October,” confirmed MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a press briefing on Friday.
  • The Islamabad police arrested several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists including party founder Imran Khan’s sisters attempting to reach D-Chowk for a planned protest.

Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, the sisters of Imran Khan, were detained by the police when they arrived at D-Chowk to join the party workers in the planned demonstration.

Imran Khan’s two sisters have been moved to the secretariat police station.

The capital police also took dozens of PTI supporters into custody and shifted them to the police station. The PTI workers and police personnel came face to face as the law enforcers used tear gas to disperse the protestors who in return pelted stones.

The heavy contingent of police is present at D-Chowk and adjacent areas as IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi directed them to remain alert, especially for the next one hour.

“The next one hour is very crucial,” the IG Islamabad said.
  • Authorities have sealed Islamabad’s D-Chowk with the installation of over 100 containers as part of heightened security measures to prevent the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest rally.

The federal police have formed a three-tier security cordon around the protest site, aiming to prevent the demonstrators from entering the Red Zone.

The PTI had called for a large-scale protest at D-Chowk, which prompted the Islamabad police to seal off all access points to the area. In an attempt to maintain law and order, the police have started arresting citizens who reached D-Chowk early on Friday. Among those arrested were two civilians and one PTI worker.
